This is the reason. I had it happen last year, battery didn't like -20 weather, so a heavy duty one came in.

Don't mind me grinding the starter. I was cringing too.

I was perfumed with diesel for the rest of the morning yesterday, love it.

Last week I had a lock freeze on the Magnum and I also had some struggles getting the door open. Couldn't turn the key in the lock. Worst part? The FOB will only lock the car because it got wet. I need to take it apart and see if I can fix it, but two new keys are in my future. I luckily didn't have to go to the shop to get the door fixed and other things looked at.

Just kidding, of course. Black smoke out of that is a bad sign, poor tune, thing will need some love to fix that. It's stalling right away? Something may be clogged in the EGR (or whatever they call it for diesel) which is leading to not enough flow. A properly tuned diesel shouldn't really have much more than a slight puff of black smoke.

EGR pipe was cracked, thankfully, not the egr itself. We just got it back today. Black smoke when starting is normal-ish, it's normal to smoke a bit, but it was worse than last year.
